Palm vein scanner · Palm reader

How does palm vein check-in work in a game room?

The ArcadeX palm reader uses a color camera and infrared light to read the vein pattern in a player’s palm. The first time, the player sees a consent screen and enrolls their palm. After that, holding a hand over the reader checks them in at the Match System and opens their account. A player who declines checks in by phone lookup instead. Palm check-in is part of the Match System, which comes with ArcadeX Premium, $249 per store per month, and with Enterprise. You can test palm check-in free for a week, and if you keep the Match System your first month of Premium is free.

How a palm check-in works

Three screens on the Match System, from an open hand to a match.

  1. 1. The player holds a hand over the scanner
  2. 2. ArcadeX finds the player
  3. 3. Cooldown clear: the match can be played

Example screens and receipt. Store and player are made up.

Why owners add palm check-in

One player, one account

A palm ties each check-in to a real person, which makes it much harder to run several accounts under different names.

Consent comes first

Every player sees a consent screen before a palm is enrolled. Saying no is fine: they check in by phone.

Nothing to lose

No card left at home, no tag passed to a friend. The player is the credential.

Part of a set of four

Palm sits next to NFC tag, wallet QR pass, and phone lookup. Each shop chooses which ones to offer.

A clean record

Each check-in and match is logged with a time stamp, so you can see who played, when, and at which store.

Built into the Match System

The reader is part of the counter unit, not a separate gadget, so check-in and the match happen in one place.

Questions about palm scanners

What is a palm vein scanner?

A palm vein scanner identifies a person by the pattern of veins under the skin of the palm. The ArcadeX reader uses a color camera together with infrared light to read that pattern, so a player checks in by holding a hand over the reader instead of carrying a card.

Is a palm reader or palm scanner the same as a palm vein scanner?

In a game room, yes. People search for a palm reader, a palm scanner, or palm scan check-in. On an ArcadeX counter they all mean the palm vein reader that checks a player in at the Match System.

Do players have to use their palm?

No. Palm is one of four check-in options, next to NFC tag, wallet QR pass, and phone number lookup, and you choose which ones each shop offers. A player who would rather not enroll a palm checks in by phone.

How does ArcadeX handle biometric consent?

ArcadeX shows the player a consent screen before any palm is enrolled. If they decline, they check in by phone lookup instead. Biometric rules differ by state, such as Illinois BIPA and Texas CUBI, so check your own obligations with your attorney.

Why use a palm vein scanner for game room check-in?

Each check-in is tied to one real player, which makes it harder for one person to run several accounts and gives you a clean record of who played and when. Players also have nothing to lose or forget at home.

How much does palm vein check-in cost?

Palm check-in is part of the Match System, which comes with Premium at $249 per store per month and with Enterprise. Test palm check-in free for a week; keep the Match System and the first month of Premium is free. The palm reader hardware is quoted for your floor.
